Alleynes (Barbados) Inc. is a non-profit company. Our intention is to make the appeal of the organisation as wide and as inclusive as possible — open to anyone with a connection to the Alleyne name or its history.
Preserve the family history and continue the legacy which began in 1630.
Promote and assist the Alleyne School, established in 1775 and located in Belleplaine, St. Andrew, Barbados.
Promote the contribution of Sir John Gay Alleyne to the development of Barbados.
Restore and maintain important Alleyne historic sites.
Fifth Baronet. Elected Patron of the company at the Directors' meeting held on 15 January 2014.
The archive is organised into ten parts — from the family timeline and the Alleyne School through to graves, plaques, and the biographies still being added today.
From the Rev. Richard Alleyne's rectorship at Stowting in 1605, to Reynold's arrival in Barbados in 1630, to St. Nicholas Abbey in 1746 — charting events in England, the USA and Barbados decade by decade, 1600 to 1980.
The Alleyne SchoolFounded by Sir John Gay Alleyne for the poor boys of the parish. Renamed the Seminary in 1858, a Government Grammar School from 1881, first on the island to go co-educational in 1947. Today, 805 students.
